And what is not? And in bewteen the lines lies its unmistakable essence! It's somewhere bewteen the fighter and the lover, while being the best you can be at being both. The middle point of all duality and ambiguity, in other words: sustained balance. Simply put, soccer and shadow mixed martial arts as the main activities for fitness. When combined, they are all-encompassing and wholesome. Irreplaceable.
Bruce Lee would be proud.
ReplyDeleteWaht about Jackie Chan?
ReplyDeleteFunny that you say this! Bruce Lee is in fact the single most influencial inspiration behind CJJ. At some point he said: Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it. I hope you are on this path as well. ANd don;t forget: be like water, my friend.
ReplyDeleteIn short: Jackie Chan ain't no Bruce Lee. ;^)
ReplyDeleteStay thirsty my friend.
To reach the masses, some sort of big organization (whether) domestic and foreign branch affiliation, is not necessary. To reach the growing number of students, some sort of pre-conformed set must be established as standards for the branch to follow. As a result all members will be conditioned according to the prescribed system. Many will probably end up as a prisoner of a systematized drill.
ReplyDeleteStyles tend to not only separate men - because they have their own doctrines and then the doctrine became the gospel truth that you cannot change. But if you do not have a style, if you just say: Well, here I am as a human being, how can I express myself totally and completely? Now, that way you won't create a style, because style is a crystallization. That way, it's a process of continuing growth.
To me totality is very important in sparring. Many styles claim this totality. They say that they can cope with all types of attacks; that their structures cover all the possible lines and angles, and are capable of retaliation from all angles and lines. If this is true, then how did all the different styles come about? If they are in totality, why do some use only the straight lines, others the round lines, some only kicks, and why do still others who want to be different just flap and flick their hands? To me a system that clings to one small aspect of combat is actually in bondage.
This statement expresses my feelings perfectly: 'In memory of a once fluid man, crammed and distorted by the classical mess.'
Classic Lee. He got it, and I think you also get it my friend. Wisdom is only the beginning, then comes understanding. A toast for organic growth, all from whithin.
ReplyDeleteWords of wisdom. Thanks
ReplyDeletedear CJJ,
ReplyDeleteHOw are you? pleaase let us know a little bit more about your style.
I'll be honoured. CJJ is aimed at finding and tapping continously into your inner source of energy. That's the goal and the motivation. What makes it go? That's the question behind the method. Sometimes you know this from the start, sometimes you find it along the way but the search never weakens. Once you find the fire, comes the even more difficult part: how to keep it burning? And that my friend, is as far as CJJ goes, then it's all you! And at the end, you will have no one to thank but yourself. A video for you is coming soon.
ReplyDeleteHola! actualmente estas en Cuba? anyway, para enero 2012 se celebrara en Puerto Rico el US Open de Jiu Jitsu. Seria bueno ver un equipo de Cuba por aca.
ReplyDeleteThe living are soft and yielding;
ReplyDeletethe dead are rigid and stiff.
Living plants are flexible and tender;
the dead are brittle and dry.
Those who are stiff and rigid
are the disciple of death.
Those who are soft and yielding
are the disciples of life.
The rigid and stiff will be broken.
The soft and yielding will overcome.
A lot of wisdom and understanding in these words. Strength is found in yielding. Continue to be like water, my friend.
ReplyDeleteWhat's up Doc? Nice videos..very instructive.(De'caracas)
